Step By Step how to Recovery password for root

If you’re using Linux: Grub Menu , you can still reset your password without the need to go through all the above.

At the Fedora Core boot-prompt that asks which linux to boot… Hit the ‘a’ key on your keyboard.

You will be looking at a screen prompt similar to this:

grub append> ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet

Now you add another keyword called “single”, and it should look more or less like this:

grub append> ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet single

Ok, now hit the [Enter] key.

For sh3.1# you can reset password for root by
sg3.1#passwd root
Enter your new password

After this type Command reboot for restart system to normal mode

If you’re using Linux: lilo Menu , you can still reset your password without the need to go through all the above.

1. First reboot server and when you see the LILO: prompt type “linux single” and hit enter. this will log you in as root in single user mode.

2. Once booting is complete, you can change your password with this command:
passwd

3. Type your new password and reboot your system.
